Model of the United Nations (MUN) is a widespread simulation game all around the world. It is held on national and international level. United Nations Association of Bulgaria organizes school and university regional and national Model of the United Nations with pre-prepared materials on current topics.
The participants in MUNtake the role of “ambassadors” of foreign countries. Current world problems in one of the UN bodies are being discussed. The task is to gain experience in decision-making, critical and rational thinking and to increase participants’ knowledge of a particular international problem. A lot can be learned about foreign countries, their politics, economics and culture during the preparations forthe roles.
This is great opportunity for every young person with an interest in the field of international relations and conflict resolution to walk into the atmosphere of the United Nations and to gain knowledge and practical experience in making decisions concerning international peace and stability.
The game is close to reality, but the task is not necessarily to reach a well developed and received document. It is important to establish a motive for learning, to understand the problems of others, to develop the skill of cooperation and compromise in complex situations. The open good communication and the development of language skills are among the most important tasks of the simulation game, shortly called “Model of the United Nations”.
